Intuition Continued. Self-taught Artists.

In an essay titled The Self in Self Taught Art compiled in the book Self-Taught Art by Charles Russel, Roger Cardinal discusses the exploration of the self in self-taught or outsider art. “It is indeed my contention that, in Self-Taught Art, the crucial lessons are not those that explore ways of handling the materials, nor even those which reveal how to translate imaginative contents into external equivalents, but those which teach the pupil how to maximize creative fluency by achieving self-knowledge or self-mastery” (Russel 72).
